Sequoia Community Corps to Hold Free Electronic Waste Collection Events

Visalia residents have a free resource for properly disposing of household electronics rather than putting them in the trash.  Household electronics that should be recycled include televisions, computer equipment and monitors, cell phones, stereo systems and microwaves.

If the materials are not correctly recycled, chemicals from the electronics can seep through landfills and possibly contaminate drinking water.  Recycling the electronics reduces the strain on our landfills and creates a greener environment.

To address the need for increased recycling of electronics, the Sequoia Community Corps (SCC), a division of Community Services and Employment Training (CSET), is holding a free electronic waste collection event for Visalia residents.  The free e-waste recycling event is on Friday, May 18 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and Saturday, May 19 from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Visalia Home Depot located at 3500 S. Demaree St., Visalia.

Proceeds from the recyclable material benefit youth members of the Sequoia Community Corps.  The mission of the Corps is to provide young men and women with job training, education, leadership and environmental awareness through performance of community and conservation work projects.

The SCC has been successfully operating in Tulare, Kings, and Kern Counties for more than 25 years and has provided 4,000 young adults with valuable job training and educational opportunities.  In addition, the SCC assists local agencies and businesses in meeting critical needs in the community such as park development, construction of low-income family housing, recycling, and natural resource conservation.

No appointment is necessary.  For more information about the events, contact Letty Gonzalez at (559) 741-4675 or Letty.Gonzalez@cset.org.
