CSET Employment and Mentorship Program Recruiting Youth 16-21

A Community Services and Employment Training, Inc. (CSET) employment and mentorship program is recruiting youth ages 16-21.  The program, Youth Transitions, is in partnership with Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

Participants will gain career counseling, work ethics and case management services.  These activities prepare youth to apply and interview for paid work experience at HHSA and other Tulare County departments.  A work site mentor supports the success of each participant while they are working for the department.

Of the 81 youth that participated in Youth Transitions in 2011, all received training in public jobs and 10 gained employment with private business.  The training and work experience these 10 youth received helped them gain jobs with Family HealthCare Network, Cigna, VF Outdoor, and many others.

Additionally, Youth Transitions participants are encouraged to research and apply for college or vocational education, and youth receive assistance from CSET staff on applying to colleges and accessing financial aid.  As a result, 29 youth attended High School or alternative education to attain their High School diploma or GED.  Thirty seven students continued into college or vocational education.

“We are extremely grateful to CSET for their valuable partnership with the Youth Transitions program,” stated Tulare County HHSA Director John Davis.  “This program has provided youth with valuable life and work experience.”

While working for Tulare County Health and Human Services, the youth gained experience as self-sufficiency support assistants, case worker aides and clerical assistants.  The youth also gained customer service skills, managed multi-phone systems and performed data entry.
