CSET Program Reduces Tulare County Foreclosures
Community Services and Employment Training (CSET) helped 29 Tulare County families keep their homes in 2011 through CSET’s free foreclosure counseling services.
Customers assisted by CSET have been at risk of foreclosure due to loss of employment, reduction of income or had an adjustable rate mortgage. Services were also provided to homeowners that defaulted on their mortgage payments or had the foreclosure process started by their lender.
For families at risk of defaulting on their loan, CSET provides free foreclosure counseling to assist the homeowner reach a workable option with their lender. The homeowner will be presented with options available to prevent foreclosures and how to avoid foreclosure scams.
If a homeowner is late on a payment or already starting the foreclosure process, CSET foreclosure counselors create a customized solution. The solution includes money management education, assistance with foreclosure payment reduction plans and working with mortgage lenders to adjust interest rates.
“I am so grateful for CSET’s foreclosure counseling services,” stated customer Patricia Bates. “They helped me get a loan modification, which allowed my family to stay in our house. I don’t know what I would have done without CSET’s help.”
CSET is also a local participant in the statewide Keep Your Home California (KYHC) program, which helps homeowners access nearly $2 billion in federal funds. Homeowners can receive assistance through KYHC if they have suffered involuntary unemployment or have fallen behind on mortgage payments due to short-term financial problems. Keep Your Home California also assists homeowners with principal reduction if they have severe negative equity on their loan and it can provide one-time funds to help homeowners who have executed a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure program.
