When you use energy is just as important as how much of it you use. By using energy at certain times you can make sure you are using cleaner energy. Time is on your side.
WHO WE ARE
Energy Upgrade California® is a statewide initiative committed to helping Californians be more energy efficient, utilize more sustainable natural resources, reduce demand on the energy grid and make informed choices about their energy use at home and at work—all of which goes a long way for California.
In recent years, Californians have done a great job managing energy and becoming more energy efficient. But in order to meet the state’s goal to become a zero-carbon electricity state by 2045, we need to do more. How can we take the next step?
It turns out that when electricity is used matters as much as how much electricity is used.
WHY TIME MATTERS
During the day, the sun is out and wind is blowing, so renewable sources like solar energy and wind energy are plentiful. Most of this power cannot be stored and saved later.
There is also typically less demand during the day because of natural lighting and people leaving home for work or other destinations.
Energy demand peaks from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. as people return home an use electricity and gas to light and heat their homes at night.
It doesn’t take much to make a difference. Simply being mindful of the time of day and adjusting your energy use accordingly is all you need to do.
WHEN TO USE ENERGY
By making a few small changes to your routine you can help create a big change for California. It's as simple as using energy when the sun is out and the wind is blowing.
