Technology is a powerful tool and CSET is putting it in the hands of our local youth. Computer technology skills are growing in importance and we provide students an opportunity to get ahead of the game.
KEEPING YOUTH CONNECTED
TECH Connect is a nine-month technology learning and service initiative that teaches youth ages 14-18 about computer repair, refurbishment and electronic recycling. Students are also assisted with college preparation plans and are exposed to various career opportunities.
After having developed computer skills, TECH Connect students are given the opportunity to give back to their community by teaching computer skills classes to local residents. Currently, the program is offered in the community of Orosi and each class consists of 15 youth participants.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
In addition to learning about computers, participants also train to be Certified Tax Preparers with CSET's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). TECH Connect students assisted 176 people file their returns for the 2016 tax year.
BASIC SKILLS COMPUTER TRAINING
Youth participants work with community residents to help them learn about the basics of a computer. Community residents learn about web browsing, setting up email accounts and creating resumes. The results have been positive, both participants and youth leaders enjoy working together through activities that teach positive computer and internet use.
SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT
Students in the TECHConnect program participate in a service learning project in an effort to connect to the needs of their community. Service learning projects are designed to integrate meaningful community service with instruction. This is done to leave a lasting impression on youth participants on the importance of giving back to your community. The service learning project enriches the students' experience and teaches them civic responsibility.
