Keeping Youth Connected

TECH Connect is a nine-month technology learning and service initiative that teaches youth ages 14–18 computer repair, refurbishment, and electronic recycling skills. Students also receive support with college preparation planning and are exposed to a variety of career pathways in technology and related fields.

After developing foundational computer skills, TECH Connect participants have the opportunity to give back to their community by teaching computer literacy classes to local residents. The program is currently offered in the community of Orosi and serves cohorts of up to 15 youth participants.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

In addition to learning computer skills, participants also train to become Certified Tax Preparers through CSET’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. TECH Connect students assisted 176 individuals in filing their tax returns for the 2016 tax year.

Basic Skills Computer Training

Youth participants work with community members to help them learn basic computer skills. Residents receive instruction on web browsing, setting up email accounts, and creating resumes. The results have been very positive, with both participants and youth leaders benefiting from collaborative activities that promote safe and effective computer and internet use.     

Service Learning Project

Students in the TECH Connect program participate in service-learning projects designed to connect them with the needs of their community. These projects integrate meaningful community service with instruction, helping to create a lasting understanding of the importance of giving back. The service-learning experience enriches students’ learning while fostering civic responsibility and community engagement.
